Scarborough Fair: Beached Reunion
The Hoosiers, Amsterdam, Belle Amie and over 30 regional acts
Saturday 13th August 2011
Scarborough Fair hosts the return of Beached Festival. The popular event finds a new home at the Open Air Theatre and brings the best in indie, pop and rock to Scarborough on Saturday 13th August. It joins the previously-announced Festival of Folk & World Music to complete this weekend-long homage to the town's historic fair.
The Hoosiers' signature blend of pop, disco and rock has sold over a million records, scored two top-ten albums and delivered hits including “Choices” and “Worried About Ray”. The band played Beached in 2007 and return to perform at the Beached Reunion.
Joining The Hoosiers are Liverpudlians Amsterdam, who had their first break when NME awarded them “Best Unsigned Band” in 2000 and made their way to into the UK charts with singles including “The Journey”. Amsterdam are Beached veterans, entertaining crowds in 2007 and 2008, and they bring their guitar pop to Saturday's line-up.
Local girl Sophia Wardman will be returning home this summer as part of Belle Amie, the feisty girl group who shot to fame as finalists on television's X Factor. The band were cherry-picked by music mogul Simon Cowell, and the now three-piece have been hailed by Louis Walsh (Cowell's fellow X Factor judge) as “the next big girl band”.
In addition to these fantastic headliners, there are also over 30 local and regional acts performing, adding the best in new talent to Scarborough Fair's Saturday.
Beached was born ten years ago and became one of the Yorkshire Coast's biggest music events, attracting over 35,000 revellers. The festival built a high reputation for itself over eight years, bringing many household names to Scarborough while also becoming a springboard for new talent.
The Beached Reunion 2011 will provide an electric opening to Scarborough Fair with a line-up of new music, previous headliners and local bands.

Sunday 14th August 2011
Scarborough Fair brings the hottest acts in folk and world music to Scarborough, promising an afternoon and evening of pure enjoyment. In addition to a fantastic selection of folk, we have teamed up with festival promoters Musicport to offer the best in world music.
The festival is headlined by Bellowhead, the critically-acclaimed big band of folk and five-time winners of “Best Live Group” at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Founded in 2004 by renowned duo John Spiers and Jon Boden, the unique eleven-piece honour centuries of English musical tradition while pressing forward as pioneers of modern folk.
Equally innovative is the Demon Barber Roadshow, a high-energy spectacular uniting English folk powerhouse The Demon Barbers (“Best Live Band” – BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards) with the country's most exciting young traditional dancers. Combining everything from morris dancing to beatboxing, The Demon Barber Roadshow is an incredible extravaganza where you can expect the unexpected.
Alejandro Toledo and the Magic Tombolinos combine Balkan folk with rock and electronica to create an energetic fusion of world sounds. The London-based band bring their extravagant live performance to Scarborough Fair's Sunday.
Legendary duo Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick reunite with a new and intense collection of traditional songs and instrumentals. With folk music an integral part of their being, their mature approach lacks none of the fervour that helped revolutionise Britain's folk scene in the 1960s.
Scottish mavericks Shooglenifty push “traditional” to its limits with their ground-breaking blend of roots music and dance vibes. Defying genres, they have been described as everything from “acid croft” to “hypnofolkadelia”, but all agree they are irresistible to dance to and one of the best live bands around.
Jim Moray is a 29-year-old singer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer who creates contemporary twists on England’s traditional music. His work has been described as “the biggest leap forward in folk for 30 years” (The Telegraph).
Founded by Hameed Khan "Kawa", the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band add traditional Indian music and dance to the line-up, and the The Mighty Zulu Nation showcase a kaleidescope or Zulu culture with a spellbinding performance.
The Duncan McFarlane Band proudly describe themselves as folk-rock. The unreconstructed six-piece from Yorkshire make no excuses in their mission to produce memorable, danceable music with a knowing nod to their 70s influences. Also from Yorkshire, accordion/percussion duo The Hut People play a collection of songs from around the world.
Kinshasa-born Robert Maseko joins the line-up for an acoustic set of Congolese and rumba-influence music. Hailing from Gambia, Sura Susso has recently released his debut album and will enchant Scarborough with the sound of the kora – the African harp.
Pete Bolton’s Whiskey Dogs play authentic, early Americana with influences such as the Carter Family, Memphis Jug Band and the Old Crow Medicine Show. Since being named BBC Radio “Yorkshire Songwriter of the Year” in 2006, Anna Shannon has captivated audiences with her original songs and refreshing take on folk music. Another Yorkshire-based act, The Sail Pattern offer a mix of sea shanties, original songs and a racous broadside of folk.
Doors open at 12.00pm. Tickets: £25 adults / £10 under 16s.

Rewind – The 80s Night
Tony Hadley, ABC, Go West, Dr and The Medics, The Christians, China Crisis and Cutting Crew
Friday 2nd September 2011
Due to overwhelming feedback, Rewind – The 80s Night has been rescheduled from Sunday 24th July to Friday 2nd September. We were contacted by a large number of disappointed fans who were unable to attend due to the event being held on a Sunday. After much deliberation, we decided a Friday night would provide the opportunity for as many people as possible to enjoy the party.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to our original ticket holders. If you have any problems or have booked transport or accommodation please contact Juhi Agrawal and let us know your concerns so we can do our best to arrange the best possible solution for you.
It's back! After massive success in 2010, Rewind – The 80s Night returns to the Open Air Theatre. We have pulled out all the stops to bring you the ultimate 80s party and are proud to welcome Spandau Ballet vocalist Tony Hadley as our headliner. He will raise the crowd to their feet with chart-topping favourites such as “Gold” and “True”, providing a spectacular finale to an entertainment-packed evening.
Joining Hadley is a stellar line up of 80s icons including ABC, who perform an impressive repertoire of classic pop. The band's Lexicon of Love is considered one of the finest-produced albums of all time, and hits like “The Look of Love”, “Poison Arrow” and “Tears Are Not Enough” are essential ingredients to any 80s party playlist.
Also appearing are pop duo Go West, who will celebrate 26 years together with a collection of catchy hits that include “King of Wishful Thinking” and “Faithful”. London-based Dr And The Medics will rock the arena with their take on psychedelia and are sure to provide a sing-a-long highlight with their massive number one “Spirit in the Sky”.
Another perfect addition to the Rewind line-up is The Christians. Their successes include well-loved single “Harvest for the World” and they bring their socially-aware lyrics and magical vocal harmonies to the Open Air Theatre. Fellow Liverpudlians China Crisis also take the stage to perform their post-punk pop hits. The band have entertained crowds for over three decades with tracks that include the popular “Wishful Thinking”.
The grammy-nominated, multi-million selling Cutting Crew complete the line up with an electrifying set of British rock. The band stormed the UK and US charts in the 80s with well-known tracks including “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” and “Hot Dance/Club Party”.
Doors open at 5.00pm. Guests must be seated by 6.30pm
