14 Facts about Olly Murs

It's now less than 10 days until our first show of the Summer! Our final artist fact file is Olly Murs, performing on Sunday 9th July.

Here are 14 facts you may or may not already know about Olly Murs!

  • Olly Murs rose to fame in 2009 when he competed on The X Factor and finished the competition as runner up.
  • The X Factor wasn’t Olly’s first television appearance as he had appeared on Channel 4’s Deal or No Deal just two years prior and had won £10 on the show.
  • Olly appeared a second time on Deal or No Deal, this time doing so for charity and he won just 50p, however he decided to donate £5,000 out of his own pocket to make up for his unlucky run.
  • In February 2010 Olly announced that he had signed a joint deal with Epic Records and Syco Music.
  • He has since released five studio albums, four of which went to number 1 and the debut album went to number 2.
  • His debut single “Please Don’t Let Me Go” charted at number 1 in the UK singles chart, three more number 1’s have since been released too.
  • Olly has gained thirteen top 20 singles in total since 2010 and also appeared as a feature artist as part of Band Aid 30 with “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” which hit the top spot.
  • Olly has been nominated for two Ivor Novello awards, six BRIT awards and a MTV Europe Music award. He has won two BBC Radio 1 Teen awards, a Goldene Kamera award, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice award and more.
  • Olly has been on five headlining tours since 2011 and supported One Direction in the USA in 2012 and Robbie Williams in 2013 on his stadium tour.
  • He has also performed at multiple big music festivals such as: Capital FM’s Jinglebell Ball, Capital FM’s Summertime Ball, V Festival, T4 on the Beach, T in the Park, Lytham Festival, Alton Towers Live and much more.
  • Olly has played four games for the charity Soccer Aid and done other charity work including Sport Relief, Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity and Nordoff-Robins (a music therapy charity).
  • Between 2011 and 2012 Olly presented the ITV2 show The Xtra Factor alongside Caroline Flack and the pair then went on to present the ITV1 show in 2015.
  • Olly has since also presented other TV shows including his own show A Night In With Olly Murs which featured guests such as Nicole Scherzinger, Caroline Flack and John Bishop.
  • His latest album 24 Hrs which was released in November 2016 charted as his fourth number 1 album and has sold over 300,000 copies being his fifth Platinum selling album. The album included hits such as: “You Don’t Know Love”, “Grow Up” and “Years & Years”.
